I love the way the sun and the wind shimmer the grass and the sun and clouds dapple the valleys.

Lapwing Chick hiding in the mud - a joy of spring

Driving into the gateway this evening, I noticed a lapwing (tewit) in the road... Very unusual, so I guessed she must be with her chicks. I got out of the car to take a look. Sure enough, two beautiful little chicks were running away from me. They are brilliantly camoflaged, so they just crouch when danger comes.

Lapwings nest on the ground on wet and slightly wild fields.
Tewit Cote means Lapwing Cottage or Lapwing House like a Dove Cote is a Dove House...
I left this creature quickly since I couldn't help feeling it must be cold crouched in the damp.
